Frog Disection

The frog dissection on Tuesday and Wednesday was both informative and unlike anything I have ever seen before. This lab was actually easy due to the packet I received, it showed all the instructions and where and how to cut the frog. We learned about all the organs, what they did and how they worked. Although the frogs did smell horrendous, it was bearable. What we did in this lab was the following: we made a small incision, cut the first layer of skin, make another incision and cut the muscle, then finally look through all the organs. To me, this was a new experience and as stated before, unlike anything I've seen before. I've seen CSI, Law and Order, and NCIS, but only I've seen the 'fake' insides in the human body. I didn't realize what differences and similarities in the frog and human. Finally, I have learned so much from this lab.
As seen in class, I found the website that does virtual dissections. The link to the website is listed below.

The Digestive System Lab

Both today and yesterdays lab was focused on the digestive system, in the stomach. What occurred in this lab was the digestion of cut/cubed eggs in a test tube either with nothing, pepsin, pepsin and hydrochloric acid, or just hydrochloric acid. What happened over  the coarse of the day was, the test tube with just eggs stayed the same color and size, the tube with the eggs and pepsin changed a little by, the eggs moving towards the bottom with the pepsin. The test tube with both pepsin and hydrochloric acid changed a lot. This was by the eggs and pepsin mixed together at the bottom and formed a clump which looked as if there was just sugar and water together. The last tube with hydrochloric acid changed somewhat, due to the acid; it changed by the eggs forming together and some parts of the egg would come off. What i learned/witnessed today and yesterday was, that the stomach has both a lot of muscles to help move food along and, the acid in the stomach is very powerful. This is because, in order for food to move into the small intestine and large intestine it needs the help. Also, the acid is very powerful because every three days the stomach lining 'rips' off and grows back because of the powerful acid almost burning complete holes in the stomach. Thus, leading me to conclude what I have learned throughout this lab.

Todays Lab, October 11, 2011

Today's lab was not a success. This is because, I believe the baggie, which contained both water and starch, was too thick for the liquid to seep into the baggie. Even though this lab was not a success, I've learned how this lab didn't work, if it did work, the starch would have turned purple. If all labs did not have trial and error, life would be a lot easier, but it is also good to have errors to see which chemicals go with other chemicals without them blowing up or creating a pandemic. Also, tomorrow I think we will redoing the lab, since the lab didn't work today. In the future I think we should test it to make sure everything works out the way we planned it. In conclusion, I do believe we should test the labs for a success.

The First Cloned Animal Ever!

http://www.techimo.com/forum/attachments/imo-community/1063d1013753013-meet-first-cloned-cat-cat.jpg      In 2001, the first ever animal was cloned. The name of this cute and adorable kitten is "CC" short for "Carbon Copy.” In 2006, she gave birth to a healthy litter of three. Many scientists have tried cloning dogs, yet in 2003, they were successful with the "Snuppy," the world’s first cloned canine. They use the cloned dogs to sniff out explosives, drugs and other materials. After the success with "CC" and "Snupy", they created Dolly the sheep, who died at the age of six. Once scientists studied this, they proved the fact that it had nothing to do with cloning Dolly. The cloning animals all listed here have a life spand of about twelve years.

Angry Bird Attacks Reconized Face!

While Won Young Lee was researching the Magpies, the bird took a dive-bomb onto Lee's face. Lee has worked with these birds before; installing cameras in the nest's. During the attack, Lee was already counting the amount of egg's per nest. Lee is a student at at Seoul National University, stating that
"I remember when a magpie came down from a nest tree scolding at me, I was with a second researcher at that time, and I tried to fool the magpie by giving my cap to the other person. But this did not work! When I moved away the bird followed me rather than the fellow observer wearing my cap." From my perspective I would have done the same thing that Lee did, if I were in his situation. I also for one would not want to be attacked by the magpie, because to me the beak looks not only sharp, but very long.

Donald Trump, Serious?

After reading the article about Donald Trump's presidential campaign, I have realized that Trump will not be running for president. "After considerable deliberation and reflection, I have decided not to pursue the office of the presidency, this decision does not come easily or without regret." Trump said on last Monday. At a tea party, in Boca Raton, Florida, Trump dropped the F-bomb to Obama. Trump thought before of running for president, in 1998, 2000, and 2004 stating that he "might", "considering it" and "very serious". Trump, was most "flirty" with the government, when it comes to politics. For more than twenty years, Trump has been considering a presidential campaign. Finally, Trump was not serious about the presidential campaign, and will not be running for president.

Galileo Museum Virtual Tour

The Galileo Museum in Florence, Italy was both very unique and fascinating. This museum was dedicated to the famous astronomer Galilei Galileo. In this museum, there are the two remaining telescopes in which Galileo was able to see the rings of Saturn in 1610. The Galileo Museum also has both the military and geometric compas's in which were use for most of Galileo's inventions. Also, in the museum, there is Galileo's thumb, index, middel finger from his right hand, and one of his teeth; persevered in a glass case. This amazing astronomer's corpse was transfered to a tomb in the Basilica of        Santa Croce, in Florence, Italy. Finally, the Galileo Museum is most extraordinary, and I for one would love to vist this museum, if I ever have the chance.

Lawmaker Wants Teacher to Grade Parents in Florida

I for one, completely disagree with this law which might just become an actual law. Which this bill states is that, parents should be graded for what participation the parents pay to the school. If this law were to pass, it just might pass through all the states. A little over 75% of both parents in the U.S have work and have their children attend childcare. These parents have little to do with their children's education, and would not only be failing themselves, but also their kids. Finally, I  believe this is a terrible idea with the amount of working parents who can not commit to their child's school.

Green "Ark" That Could House Ten Thousand People and Looks like a Slinky

The "green ark" is a new "ark" that can be used in the water, as apartments, a wok office or a hotel. It is currently being planned out on boards in Russia. What my opinion on this is that it just might end up like the Titanic in  the water. In addition, there might be a conflict if it is an "ark" or hotel, apartments, or a work office, this could be because it could sink, have troubles in getting it in the water. In my other opinion, it could possibly work out very well and be a success, which I would love to try to go on to the "ark". Although I have two opinions they both can work.
